For me, one of the scariest prospects of being published is that it will go straight to my head. That I will enjoy success (however small or large that it is) and somehow think that I got myself there. And the truth is, when I don’t write out of the overflow of my heart for Jesus (what I’m learning, how I view Him, etc), I don’t have anything to say anyway.
So for you, how do you keep Christ at the center of your writing?

It’s interesting that you pose this question this week because this is one of the first weeks that I’ve strayed from writing about spiritual insights I’ve had. Normally, I try to keep Christ at the center of my writing by writing about a verse or a lesson I feel God taught me through everyday life.
Friend, you have been published, and I haven’t seen it go to your head. So keep doing what you’re doing!

We don’t have to explicitly write about Christ to be Christ-centered. Your love of music is absolutely a passion implanted in you by God. We can honor Him and point to Him through even the most every day parts of our every day lives. For me, when Christ isn’t at the center of my life – He surely is not at the center of my writing. And sometimes that is a real struggle for me. Oh, I can come up with great ideas to write about (even “godly” ones), but it isn’t always out of an overflow of my heart. Therein lies the rub, as they say.

Nice blog! The only way I know to keep Christ-centered in my writing (and life) is just to stay intimately connected to Him through His Word. Prayer and worship. The writing will just overflow from my relationship with Him, it seems.
